Board of Directors’ Meeting
Thursday, February 17, 2011
MMA, Augusta, Maine

A. Call to Order – President Mike Nugent called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m.

B. Calling of the Roll of Officers: Mike Nugent, Freeman Abbott, Dabney Lewis, Bruce Smith, Kathy Joiner, Paul Demers, Chris Hanson, Jodine Adams, and Melissa Carver (MMA).

Absent:  Barbara Skelton, Tom Maynard, Geoff Smith  
It was determined there was a quorum.  

c. Reading of the Minutes of the Previous Meeting: 

January 20, 2011 – Motion made by Bruce Smith, seconded by Freeman Abbott, there was no discussion, and all approved the January 20, 2011 board minutes as amended. 

D. Communications and bills:

•  MUBEC Legislative Change Correspondence:  Mike Nugent reported there are seven (7) bills related to MUBEC still active in legislation to repeal MUBEC.  MBOIA’s position is to keep the legislation as is.  MUBEC next steps:  Continue to attend ongoing hearings.  A motion was made by Bruce Smith for the Executive Board to support the legislation as it currently stands.  Motion seconded by Chris Hanson and approved by all.  Paul Demers recommended a letter be generated next week to share with the members regarding the Board’s support of the code and this topic to be added to the agenda for the Membership Meeting in March.
  
  
• Plumbers Examining Board Meeting Update:  Mike Nugent and Paul Demers attended a meeting which resulted in the Plumbers Examining Board agreeing to support an amendment that would allow air testing.

E. Report of Officers and Treasurers

Barbara Skelton absent - no Treasurer’s report was submitted.

F. Report of Committees

• Legislative Updates:  See above – Mike Nugent will keep everybody apprised as things develop.
  
  
• By-Law Amendments: Bruce Smith noted nothing to report at this time.
  
  
• Education Committee: 
  
  
  • Spring Code Conference:  Melissa Carver distributed the DRAFT attendee packet, noting that Joan Kiszely needs the Agenda to be completed.  Dick Lambert and Tim Nelson are taking care of the Vendors.  The question was raised whether their
    e-mail addresses should be published on the website for the Vendors to contact them.

  Paul Demers made recommendations to finalize the menu: Day one - regular hot lunch buffet; Day two – Italian lunch buffet ($15.00 per person each day); Breaks $12.00 per person per day for both a.m. and p.m.  A motion to accept the above menu was made by Freeman Abbott, seconded by Jodine Adams and Chris Hanson, no discussion, all approved.
  
  Paul Demers reported on the programs he has confirmed to date:  There was a lengthy discussion about programs and where to plug them in on the agenda.  Paul will draft the two-day agenda, get it out to the Board to review, and send it to Joan.

  • March Speaker:  Mike Nugent reported that Peter Cutrer, Sanford Fire Marshal, will be the guest speaker for the March meeting on March 17, 2011 at Cole Farms.  He will speak on Chimneys.
    
    
• Nominations Committee (Based on the By-law Change, we need to elect new Board members). 
  
  
• ESBOF and NEBOEA:  Dick Lambert is a participating representative for ESBOF.  Paul Demers is now Vice President of NEBOEA and Bruce Smith is the Treasurer. MBOIA is well represented.  
  
  
• Membership Committee – Outreach for new members:  Mike reported there are 11 new TPI’s.  New Member approvals:  Eric J. Ellis applied for an active membership but it should be a subscribing member (he owes $10.00), Steven McClairie applied as a subscribing member.  Dabney Lewis made a motion to approve both new applicants as subscribing members, motion seconded by Kathy Joiner, no discussion and approved by all.

G.     Adjournment:  Motion made by Kathy Joiner to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Bruce Smith, no discussion and approved by all to adjourn the meeting at 12:00 p.m.
