Membership Meeting

Thursday, June 16, 2011

 

  • Call to Order – President Mike Nugent called the meeting to order at 11:05 a.m.

  • Calling of the Roll of Officers: Jodine Adams, Freeman Abbott, Mike Nugent, Dabney Lewis, Tom Maynard, Chris Hanson, Barbara Skelton, Kathy Joiner, Bruce Smith, Geoff Smith, Paul Demers, Joan Kiszely.

    Guest:  Jack Leyden, Bruce Johnson, Deirdre Schneider.

    It was determined there was a quorum.

    Mike Nugent noted he will be moving out of state and will be stepping down from this organization. 

  • Review and acceptance of the minutes of the March 17, 2011 meeting: Freeman Abbott made a motion to accept the March 17th minutes as written, seconded by Bruce Smith.  All approved.

  • Report of Officers and Treasurer’s Report: Barbara Skelton, Treasurer submitted a March 17, 2011 through June 15, 2011 Treasurer’s Report. She noted that the total assets are $28,405.81.  Freeman Abbott made a motion, seconded by Dabney Lewis, all approved to pay the two bills and to accept the Treasurer’s Report.

    Report of Committees:

    • Education Committee: Paul Demers reported on the following:
      1. Thanked everyone for attending the MBOIA Code Conference.
      2. 121 attendees and evaluations were very positive.
      3. Approximately $5,500 profit.
      4. Will offer training in a central location, have an excellent speaker, and comp everyone on this Conference.
      5. Purchased an extra 25 MBOIA bags because we came up short, and he will have at the next meeting.
      6. Education:  If you have any ideas or suggestions for training, please let him know.
      7. May be need for overall training for CEO – Chapters 1-9 of the IRC.

    • NEBOEA: Paul Demers noted he attended a meeting in Sturbridge to work on a October program.  This will be the first week of October.  They will get the program out from the New England Building Officials. 
      1. ESBOF: Dick Lambert reported they are looking for another representative. Last meeting was in New York.  The next meeting is in July.  There will be a conference the end of March.

    • Legislative Committee:
  • Upcoming Legislation Summary: Mike Nugent and Dick Lambert reported on the following:

    • LD 43 – Died
    • LD 1416 & 1253 – Passed
    • LD 1253 – Had several amendments
    • Had presence at all committee meetings/sessions

    • New Members: Motion made Bruce Smith, seconded by Freeman Abbott, all approved the following new members:

    Katie Haley - CEO, Town of Fryeburg  - Active
    Donald Grenier - President, DES Construction, Inc.–Kennebunk - Subscribing
    Brian Croft - Self-employed, MCF Construction–Burnham - Subscribing
    James Thomas - Owner, Thomas Home Consulting–Pittston - Subscribing
    William Wasson - Self-employed, Planning Board–Thomaston - Subscribing

    • Election of Directors:
      1. Two Board of Director Vacancies:  Mike Nugent noted that we will have an election in September. Barbara Skelton’s and the President’s position will be vacant.  The Vice President will be Jodine Adams once Mike Nugent leaves the position.
  • The Good and Welfare of the Association:
    1. Tom Reisborough noted that having more subscribing memberships coming in should tell the association that we need more training/classes.  They really want more training.
    2. Jack Leyden reported the Annual Meeting is in Phoenix, Arizona this year. There is a Scholarship Fund in ICC for those that put in and it would give them the opportunity to attend.  You can go on-line to apply for this scholarship.
    3. Paul Demers reported that Amanda Lessard is leaving the State of Maine on June 21st.  She will become a Code Official.

  • Adjournment: Paul Demers made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:45 a.m., seconded by Freeman Abbott, all approved.
